Is there anything more relaxing than a massage with oil featuring the smell of lavender, sandalwood, or jasmine ? Lying on a massage bad, you feel the sensation of hands easing your aches and pains. At the same time , you breathe in the pleasant aroma of the essential oil. Aromatherapy massage combines the psychological impact of smell on the nervous system with the physiological benefits of touch.
One difference between inhaling essential oils and applying them to the skin in the useof carrier oils. It is usually not advisable to apply essential oils directly to the skin because of their high concentration. Applied directly to the skin, these oils may cause irritation or sensitization. Sensitization can cause a person to have a reaction to an oil even if it is diluted. Derived from fatty elements of plants, such as seeds and nuts, carrier oils are mixed with essential oils. This reduces their potensy and makes them less likely to irritate the skin. Some examples if carrier oils are grapeseed oil, sesame oil, olive oil, hazelnut oil, and avocado oil. A few others are sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, and peatnut oil. However, for those with peanut allergies, oil from peanuts or other nuts should be avoided. Unlike essential oils, carrier oils may go rancid over time. Using your nose, you can detect if a carrier oil has gone bad or not. Most carrier oils normally have a mild nutty scent, and some are even odorless.
